WEST POINT DIVE PARK HISTORY

West Point Dive Park is located in the town of Lohrville, Wisconsin, Waushara County. The American Granite Company started quarrying operations in 1906 and the village is named for the company's first president, Charles Lohr. When operations ceased, the pumps were turned off, and the quarry filled with spring fed water.

For many years after that, the quarry was a swimming hole used by the locals and known as the Aardvark Quarry (supposedly due to some graffiti painted on the rocks). A rite of passage for many, was jumping from the quarry rim (60-70 feet) into the cool water below - an activity that is no longer allowed.

Mountain Bay Scuba now leases the quarry from the county and conducts many classes, trainings, and events at the site. The DNR lists the quarry as being 2 acres and a maximum depth of 64 feet. Besides bass and panfish, freshwater jellyfish make their appearance in the fall. West Point Dive Park is beautiful both above and below the water.
